The Guildford Godalming Greenway

Perhaps our biggest project is to see the construction of an active travel ‘Greenway’ network between Guildford and Godalming.  This comprises a ‘spine route’ running between the two towns with short ‘links’ to key destinations such as stations, schools, shops and where people live.  It will take in Guildford, Shalford, Peasmarsh, Broadwater, Farncombe, Godalming, Frith Hill and Charterhouse, Busbridge, Aarons Hill and Milford.

Cycle parking

It’s good to be able to travel safely but, if you are travelling by bike, you need somewhere to park securely when you get there.  Godalming Cycle Campaign is working with Godalming Town Council and Waverley Borough Council to provide more covered cycle parking in Godalming. Read about our recent success.

Local planning

Every planning application brings potential for improving active travel.  Some developments are required to contribute funds for improving infrastructure in the locality.  They may also be on a route that people would like to use for walking and cycling or they may need to be connected internally so people can get about by active travel.  Smaller developments may provide an opportunity to widen a path to make it feel safe and attractive.

Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)

Councils are being encouraged by central government to produce comprehensive plans for active travel.  In our area, this will result in a Waverley wide LCWIP.  Godalming Cycle Campaign will contribute to this, but we need more volunteers to do the best job possible.  This may include contributing ideas, surveying local roads and pathways, or sending letters of support.

Partnerships

Working together with others is always stronger than working alone.  Godalming Cycle Campaign has close links with ‘G-Bug’, the Guildford Bicycle Users Group.  We are represented on the Godalming Climate Forum and have valuable dialogue with both Godalming Town Council and The Surrey Hills to South Downs Community Rail Partnership.  Through the interests of individual members, we have connections with South West Surrey Compass, Extinction Rebellion, The Farncombe Initiative, The Ramblers and Friends of the Earth.  We actively seek to strengthen these partnerships and build new ones.
